PERFORMANCE HOST

Job Type:

Job Description & Qualifications:
Strong National Museum of Play® is looking for enthusiastic individuals with a performance background to interact and engage guests while wearing a full character costume.  Costumes may be enclosed with limited sight lines and warm temperatures.  Must be willing to work in our galleries and food courts when not assigned to a costume character.  Duties include, but are not limited to, interacting with families and young children, assisting guests with questions or directions, picking up exhibits and craft areas as needed, and providing superior customer service to museum guests. This position is 17 hours or less per week.  Occasional evening availability welcomed.

Must consent to and pass a drug screen and a criminal background check as a condition of employment. We are a smoke-free building and smoking is not allowed on museum property.

GUEST RELATIONS HOST

Job Type:           

Part-time; 17 hours or less per week
Education:
Minimum High School Diploma.  Will consider high school students that are at least seventeen (17) years of age.
Wage:
$7.70/ hour
Job Description & Qualifications:
Duties include preparation of food and service to guests in museum’s three (3) fast food restaurants and sweet shop.  Must be able to anticipate situations and respond quickly and effectively, especially in matters involving safety of people, and to enact sound judgment in respect to guest needs, questions, and expectations in a manner consistent with museum guest service goals.  Must adhere to a strict dress code, wear a clean and proper uniform, be punctual and have good attendance, and possess a strong work ethic.  
Shifts Available:
Weekends: Fridays until 8:00pm/ Saturday 9:30am-5:00pm/ Sunday 11:30am-5:00pm

Strong National Museum of Play® is looking for energetic individuals with a passion for guest service to work in our galleries. This position is 17 hours or less per week. Duties include, but are not limited to, interacting with families and young children, assisting guests with questions or directions, picking up exhibits and craft areas as needed, and providing superior customer service to museum guests. Guest Relations Hosts will also be cross trained and work in the Museum’s food court.

TEACHING HOST

Job Description & Qualifications:

Strong – National Museum of Play® has immediate openings for hourly-paid K–8 teachers who have NYS certification (or equivalent experience in any content area) and who are familiar with Multiple Intelligence's. Must have a positive attitude and be articulate, enthusiastic, and interested in a flexible part-time schedule.  Must be able to work well with children in non-traditional delivery settings, and able to work well on a team. Lessons are provided.

GUEST RELATIONS GALLERY MANAGERS

Job Type:           

Two positions available:  FT (37.5 hours/ week) and PT (25 hours/ week)

Job Description & Qualifications:
Shares responsibility with other Gallery Managers for the supervision of all Guest Relations Hosts within the guidelines established by the museum, including those hosts working in the Butterfly Garden and Retail Shops. Assists in new and ongoing training of museum hosts.  Provides a positive personal and institutional human presence in the exhibit galleries, at the admissions desk, and all other public spaces within the museum as assigned and in order to insure a friendly and helpful atmosphere for children, families and adult guests.
Minimum of three years experience in a supervisory role and within a customer service setting.  Associates Degree or better in a related field.  Willing to work some holidays, evenings, and weekends. Disney experience a plus.

EXHIBITS MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST

Minimum High School Diploma with three or more years’ related experience in routine maintenance or carpentry and basic electronics.

Job Description & Qualifications:
Experienced and skilled exhibit maintenance technician with a strong mechanical aptitude. The exhibit maintenance specialist assists in identifying exhibit maintenance needs and performs routine maintenance and repairs as needed.  Duties include, but are not limited to, repairs of exhibit related interactives, fixtures, and components including gallery electronics, A/V equipment and computers; emergency wall repair and touch-up painting; troubleshoots exhibit interactive components and re-fabricates interactives that have continuous maintenance problems; assists with other projects as assigned.  The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; perform duties in a professional manner; able to work independently and in a team; exercise sound judgment; work well under pressure; prioritize workload; and manage several tasks simultaneously.
